Story 4 – Brain Injury

I started to animate this story when I completed the graphics. The first is a photograph of a mountain, I put an effect on it. I then created clouds and in After Effects I keyframed them to move in the sky.

This photograph has an effect on it. The rock is keyframed to fall down and hit the back of her head. As it hits her head her head moves to the right and drops down.
Screen Shot 2015-05-16 at 00.07.57 I used the effect Page turn to turn the pages of this calendar. I dropped the opacity to 0% as it falls off so your eyes are on the next date on the calendar. Screen Shot 2015-05-16 at 00.08.25I created a mother, father and doctor character here. I applied a mask over the scene so it looks like her eyes are opening to see her family. I am really happy with how this turned out.
Screen Shot 2015-05-16 at 00.09.00 Here I used kinetic typography to show that she relearned how to walk and talk.Screen Shot 2015-05-16 at 00.09.24 I dropped the opacity to let the grim reaper fade in and out here as she thinks about her close call with death. Screen Shot 2015-05-16 at 00.10.38 Here you can see the who asks her “What’s that on your neck?”. I also used the bone tool to move his arm up and point his finger. Screen Shot 2015-05-16 at 00.11.01 The character is wearing her climbing gear, including a helmet. The background is the same as before, I just added in more clouds as this scene is longer than the other. The USB stick in her pocket gets lightings stripes as she talks about it to highlight its power to her health. Screen Shot 2015-05-16 at 00.33.41The sounds were downloaded and brought into Final Cut pro to put into the animation.

I showed the rough cut version to my supervisor Daniel he gave me some feedback to make it better such as changing the hospital background as they first one was too obvious that it was an effect. I also added in a scar to her neck and made the grim reaper longer.

Supervisor Meeting 8/5/15

At the meeting today I got some feedback on my designs for the 3rd story.

The following images are graphics for scenes in the 3rd story. Some feedback I got:

They are a different style to my other stories. There is a lot of drawn elements and not enough photograph elements like my last animations. I can add photographs for the walls and floors. I will also play around the the locker scene at the beginning so it looks more realistic.

Supervisor Meeting 24/4/15

We had a meeting with Daniel yesterday.

The feedback was basically to get work done. With the FYP extended to the 17th May it will help a lot with the standard of my work.

Our design diary is also due the 18th May (day of presentations) so I will need to have that completed and sent to the printers in advance.

For the following week I aim to get story 2 completed fully by Monday night. For Friday I hope to have my intro and outtro done for Ian’s assignment. This will also be part of my FYP.

Supervisor Meeting 18/4/15

Feedback from Meeting:

Story 1 Hirsutism –

Add kinetic type to certain parts where the opportunity arises. Scene when she says ‘I was diagnosed with hirsutism’.

Take out the hirsutism stamp text.

More chest hair.

Make swing move in scene 1

To bring the animation to a higher incorporate some subtle tweening and camera movement.

Try using different types of brick walls in scene 3 and pan into her.

Scene 2 – add hand movement on the two girls who say ‘O My God you do have a beard.’

Scene 3 – Instead of the outlines of people create characters and use them. Put her in the middle sitting down. Then as it says, ‘I am learning to be strong’, she stands up, hands on hips.

Have story 1 done for early next week to the highest standard.

Supervisor Meeting 27/3/15

I had a meeting today with Daniel and I showed hi and the other students there my work so far.

Feedback:

Background is a tree but the audio is a playground, does not match up – experiment with different backgrounds for that scene, playground?

Is the first scene a run threw of her story or is it her sitting on a swing thinking about what happened? – Find a way to show each story. – that they all connect together.

Supervisor Meeting 20/3/15

I had a slow week this week as I had other assignments due so I have another meeting with my supervisor Daniel on Monday.  I am using the weekend to do some work on Background experimenting and character design. I know I am behind in my FYP and need to step up if I want to get a good grade. Hopefully this is the motivation I need.

Suggestions from last weeks meeting ( 13/3/15 ) were:

1) to make a scrapbook background and have the character in the foreground

2) use a ‘Roy’ style so have real life images in the background and place the character on top of that.

21.-THE-O-BRIENS-01

I also looked at a past students work that had a similar style to Roy. He used his own images that he took for his backgrounds of Dublin City.

3) I originally wanted the backgrounds to be relevant objects to the story for example the 1st scene is a girl on a swing so I wanted the BG to be a slide and maybe a picnic table. All very simple.

For Monday I have to experiment with backgrounds, finish my character (hands, feet, color in) and illustrate the first scene to see how it will go.
